腕時計のデザインも様々ですが最も有名な腕時計デザイナーと言えばジェラルド・ジェンタで間違いないでしょう

数々の時計をデザインしたジェラルド・ジェンタですが初期で有名なデザインと言えばオメガのコンステレーション(写真３)です

Cラインと言われる美しいラインやケースと境目の無いラグなど当時は画期的なデザインでしたジェラルド・ジェンタが好んだ「袖口に引っかからないデザイン」を体現したこのデザインは現在でも人気のシリーズ「コンステレ－ション」の人気を高める一因となったのでしょう。

しかしコンステレーションのデザインはケースのみでその他の部分には関わっていなかったそうです。

そしてジェラルド・ジェンタの名を不動の物にした2つの時計を紹介します

１つめはスイスの名門時計メーカーパテックフィリップのノーチラス(写真４)です

最初に発売したモデルは薄型で写真でも分るようにフラットなベゼルデザインなので「袖口に引っかからないデザイン」を体現しつつ、防水性・堅牢性を併せ持つスポーツラグジュアリーのジャンルを生んだ画期的なモデルなんです

２つめはこちらもスイスの名門オーデマ・ピゲのロイヤルオークです今回紹介するロイヤルオークオフショアもこのデザインを生かした時計になっています。

ロイヤルオークの特徴は何と言ってもケースを貫く８本のネジでしょう

戦艦の窓をモチーフに作られており当時は非常に武骨なデザインに感じられたのではないでしょうか、こちらも最初のモデルは薄型でジェラルド・ジェンタが好んだ「袖口に引っかからないデザイン」を体現しつつ優れた防水性・堅牢性を併せ持つ素晴らしいデザインになっています。

しかしそうなると今回紹介した「デカくて厚い」時計のロイヤルオークオフショアはジェラルド・ジェンタには気に入ってもらえそうにないですね・・・・

There are many different types of wristwatch designs, but the most famous wristwatch designer is undoubtedly Gerald Genta.

Gerald Genta designed many watches, but one of his most famous early designs was the OMEGA Constellation (Photo 3).

This design, which embodied the “design that does not get caught on the cuff” that Gerald Genta favored, was one of the factors that contributed to the popularity of the Constellation series, which is still popular today. The design of the Constellation, however, was based solely on the case.

However, Gérald Genta was not involved in the design of the Constellation, only in the case and the rest of the watch.

And now I would like to introduce two watches that have made Gérald Genta's name a household name.

The first is the Nautilus (photo 4) by the prestigious Swiss watchmaker Patek Philippe.

The first model is thin and, as you can see from the photo, has a flat bezel design, so it embodies the “design that won't get caught on your cuff” while being waterproof and robust.

The second is the Royal Oak by Audemars Piguet, another prestigious Swiss brand, and the Royal Oak Offshore introduced here also makes use of this design.

The Royal Oak is characterized by the eight screws that run through the case.

The first model was thin and embodied Gerald Genta's favorite “design that doesn't get caught on the cuff”, while at the same time having excellent water resistance and robustness.

But then, the Royal Oak Offshore, the “big and thick” watch introduced here, is not likely to be liked by Gerald Genta. ・・・・
